The body of missing 16-year old Free State teenager, Luyanda Mvelase has been found. He went missing in Harrismith on 24 January and was last seen in Skomplaas.
His half-naked body was found near Intabazwe in Harrismith on Sunday.
Harrismith police are calling for anyone with information on the death of Luyanda Mvelase to come forward.
His body was identified by his mother and police are investigating a case of murder.
The 16-year old was residing in Linda Mkhonto section of Intabazwe near Harrismith.

SAPS reminds South Africans that there is no waiting period to report a missing person.
When a person goes missing, it is of the utmost importance to report it immediately.
Report a missing person at your nearest police station immediately.
- Produce a recent photograph of the missing person, if possible.
- Give a complete description of the missing person’s last whereabouts, clothes that they were wearing, as well as any information that can assist the investigating officer.
- Complete and sign a SAPS 55(A) form. This form safeguards the SAPS from hoax reports and indemnifies the SAPS to distribute the photograph and information of the missing person.
- Obtain the investigating officer’s contact details, and send any additional information that might become available.
- If a missing person is found or returns voluntarily, inform the investigating officer immediately. A SAPS 92 form must be completed to inform the Bureau of Missing Persons that the missing person’s report can be removed from the circulation system.
According to police statistics from 2000 to 2020, 94 252 people were reported missing in South Africa.
Over 16, 151 were children who were reported missing. Missing Children SA says 23% of its missing children cases led to the children being found deceased or falling into the “still not found” category.
