The City of Joburg reminds all party-goers this New Year’s Eve to remain safe on the roads.
President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that Cabinet approved several changes to the Adjusted Alert Level 1 COVID-19 regulations.
These adjusted restrictions include:
- The curfew is lifted, meaning that there is no restrictions on the hours of movement of people.
- Alcohol establishments that have licences to operate beyond 23h00 will revert back to full licence conditions.
With no curfew and the restrictions of the sale of alcohol lifted, an increase in road fatalities is possible.
With this in mind, the the City of Joburg shares the following road safety tips for New Year’s party-goers:
- Don’t Speed
- Don’t drink and drive
- Walk away from disputes
- Drink Responsibly
- Handle fireworks with care
A less friendly approach was also taken to enforce the law and the possible reality of what could happen.
