Johannesburg in your Pocket temps locals to tour the city of Joburg with sneak peeks of artwork and unique visitor’s experiences.
The invitation begins with a picture of a sculpture in Hillbrow that is said to represent Africa.
We love this sculpture in Hillbrow and its representation of Africa. Spotted by the lovely @thescribsandnibs on a @dlalanje experience. Always a worthwhile way to spend time getting to understand Joburg. Read more about this below. If anyone can supply… https://t.co/JNU2Rq1lkd pic.twitter.com/Y0pKzLsaEp

No information is shared about the tall totem-like structure other than its eye-capturing demand to be admired.
Hillbrow has more to offer than its unknown artwork found along its routes.
It also has the Johannesburg Art Gallery, which boasts the largest art collection in the country.
It has the famous Telkom Tower which was constructed in 1968 and opened in 1971.
The Tower once had a revolving restaurant right at the very top as well as a non-revolving restaurant and an observation floor.
The Tower closed in 1981 due to safety reasons.
Hillbrow also has the Ponte City Apartments nearby.
An infamous building that first was a residential must-have but that later became a haven for drug dealers, prostitution, and suicides.
This all changed in 2001 when the building was purchased by new owners.
The skyscraper received security and residents became more diverse as safety in the building increased.
The neighbourhood also has the oldest park in Johannesburg and Constitutional Hill.
Constitutional Hill’s poor reputation created by its history is now a symbol of hope and democracy thanks to it being the site of the South African Constitutional Court.
The City of Joburg has tons to share with those who would like to explore it.
