Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s passing at the age of 90 was announced.
The archbishop passed away on the morning of 26 December in Cape Town.
The President of South Africa shared his condolences with the Tutu family.
“The passing of the Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu is another chapter of bereavement in our nation’s farewell to a generation of outstanding South Africans who have bequeathed us a liberated South Africa.”

The Nelson Mandela Foundation also shared its condolences with the family and described his passing as “immeasurable”.

The archbishop officially retired from the public at the age of 79.
This did not stop him from sharing his stance against moral injustice.
He is described as a living “embodiment of faith and action” by the Desmond and Leah Tutu Foundation.
He spent his closing years with his wife, Mam Leah at their Milnerton home.
His passing is described as a peaceful one at the Oasis Frail Care Centre.
