Meagan Good and DeVon Franklin file for divorce

Meagan Good and DeVon Franklin have decided to end their marriage after nine years.

The news comes as a shock to their fans as they were considered “couple goals” by many. DeVon, who is a Seventh-Day Adventist minister and film producer, filed for divorce on Monday.

They confirmed they were getting a divorce in a joint statement they shared on Instagram.

“After much prayer and consideration, we have decided to go into our futures separately but forever connected. We celebrate almost a decade of marriage together and a love that is eternal,” the statement read.

The former couple says “there’s no one at fault”.

“We believe this is the next best chapter in the evolution of our love. We are incredibly grateful for the life-changing years we’ve spent together as husband and wife.”

Meagan and Devon’s love story

Meagan and DeVon’s love story blossomed on the set of ‘Jumping the Broom’ in 2011. The ‘Harlem’ actress revealed in a previous interview that they connected “platonically” on the set.

Meagan was in a toxic relationship at the time. The 40-year-old says God later revealed to her that DeVon was her husband.

They were both skeptical at first, with DeVon revealing that Meagan did not tick some of the boxes on his list. The minister said that Meagan smoked cigarettes at the time and “liked to drink”, which was the opposite of what he wanted from his dream wife.

“I had to let go of my list. I had to really sacrifice my list to accept her for who she is and who God created her to be,” he revealed in a ‘Love From A Distance‘ interview.

The couple got married in June 2012. They faced a lot of criticism during their marriage.

Churchgoers slammed Meagan for wearing revealing clothing and starring in movies that featured sex scenes.

“It kind of made me upset with the church for a while,” the ‘Think Like A Man’ actress said at an Essence Festival.

DeVon defended his wife, saying she should wear whatever she wants.

“I don’t own her [and] she doesn’t own me. We are together and I respect whatever she chooses to put on. When I married her, I said, ‘I accept you for who you are. And whatever you choose to wear, that is your right,” he added.

    • regulate, in harmony with international standards, the processing of personal information by public and private bodies in a manner that gives effect to the right to privacy subject to justifiable limitations that are aimed at protecting other rights and important interests,
    1. Definitions and Interpretation

    1.1.“Personal Information” means information relating to an identifiable, living, natural person and where it is applicable, identifiable, existing juristic person, including all information as defined in the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013. 

    1.2  Parliament assented to POPIA on 19 November 2013. The commencement date of section 1, Part A of Chapter 5, section 112 and section 113 was 11 April 2014. The commencement date of the other sections was 1 July 2020 (with the exception of section 110 and 114(4). The President of South Africa has proclaimed the POPI commencement date to be 1 July 2020.

     
    1.3. “Processing” means the creation, generation, communication, storage, destruction of personal information as more fully defined in the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013.  

    1.4. “You” or the “user” means any person who accesses and browses this website for any purpose.
