An 11-year old girl has allegedly been abducted outside her primary school in Mayfair, Johannesburg.
The grade 5 learner was waiting to get her temperature screened and sanitized when 3 armed men snatched her.
Eyewitnesses say the men were in a white/silver Toyota Yaris. The girl was taken outside the gates of EP Baumann Primary School at 07h11am on Wednesday, 17 November.
Police are investigating the circumstances around her disappearance.
Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi said that he was deeply concerned about the girl’s abduction and has called for anyone with information to come forward.
Meanwhile students who witnessed the incident will receive trauma counselling according to the Gauteng Department of Education.
The department’s Steve Mabona said: “We have professionals at the school conducting counselling and they will observe for the entire week because there are those that witnessed the ordeal. We just want to call upon anyone who might have seen something to get in touch with the police.”
The 11-year old girl’s alleged abduction comes just 3 weeks after the Moti brothers were kidnapped in Limpopo. All 4 brothers have since been reunited with their parents.
On October 20, Zia, Alaan, Zayyad and Zidan were on their way to the Curro Heuwelkruin school in Dalmada, in Polokwane, when they were taken.
The family driver claimed that they were blocked off by two vehicles at the Tzaneen bypass.
He further claimed that about seven men, dressed in white overalls, got out of the vehicles. The men then fired at the BMW.
The men allegedly forced the boys out of the BMW and into a Mercedes-Benz and drove off. The suspects’ vehicles were last seen travelling on the R81 out of Polokwane.
The motive behind the kidnapping forms part of a police investigation.
