The South African Mint just launched the long-awaited Big Five Series II.
This is the second series following the first one that was introduced in 2019.
The coins are available in silver, gold, and platinum and the platinum coin is once again only available as a 1oz coin.
The silver range is comprised of a 1oz proof coin, a 1oz Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) coin packaged in an attractive blister folder, unlike the traditional coin box, a Big 5/Krugerrand combination set, and the ever-popular two-coin double capsule proof set.
Additional silver sizes are being explored for a later release date.
In the gold range, where all the coins are proof grade, the standard 1oz coin, and Big 5/Krugerrand combination set are joined by a new single 1/4oz coin and a new two-coin double capsule 1/4oz set.
Kaya Biz with Gugulethu Mfuphi interviews Honey Mamabole.
Mamabole is the Managing Director of South African Mint.
She shares exciting investment opportunities for all South Africans.
Mamabole says that “the Big 5 coins have truly entrenched themselves as a popular choice among collectors around the world in a short two-and-a-half-year period since the first coin was introduced.”
“Remember that there’s platinum, gold and silver.”
“Silver is a lot more accessible [because] the dollar price of silver is lower.”
“The coins range from anything below R1000 to R100 000.
“A coin worth R100 000 would be like a 2 Ounce coin. The midpoint is around R40 000.”
“The price list is available on the website.”
“You can even start collecting for children.”
