RESULTS OPERATION CENTRE, TSHWANE
As vote counting of the 2021 Local Government Elections continued on Tuesday morning, early indications were that the African National Congress might be dealt with a serious blow by opposition parties.
By 10:30, the ruling party was sitting at 35% in Ekurhuleni which has historically been a strong supporter of the ANC.
In the City of Johannesburg, the party was under 40% with the Democratic Alliance second at around 20%. In the City of Tshwane, the Freedom Front Plus looks to be growing and may be a kingmaker party.
Speaking to Kaya News, the FF Plus’ Head of Elections, Woutter Wessels said the party has been working hard to make in-roads in that province.
Analysts are warning that it is too early to call the election as only a small percentage of results have been counted. Dr Sithembile Mbete joined Thomas and Skhumba this morning and reminded listeners that votes from suburbs are usually completed first and only once votes from areas that are predominantly Black are captured will a clearer picture begin to emerge.
