OneSA leader Mmusi Maimane said it’s time for communities to take back their power by voting for independent candidates.
Speaking to Sizwe Dhlomo on Kaya Drive the politician said people are surrendering their power to political parties.
He aims to invert that with his political movement OneSA and unify against the racial divide. Maimane is currently campaigning with independent municipal candidates in Gauteng, Eastern Cape and the Western Cape.
He is of the belief that independent candidates have a better chance of ensuring better service delivery on the ground than political parties.

Maimane says the big political parties come into the state and capture it, “they deploy their people into their parties. It’s run by bureaucracies that are factionalized.”
He said that the reason OneSA will remain a movement and not a political party is because he wants to keep the integrity of his vision intact.
The former DA leader said he has no regrets about leaving the opposition party.
“Sometimes you outgrow an environment. I have been on incredible new journey, established an education centre, distributed over 1,1 million meals, working with 12 organisations in municipalities.”
He shared with Sizwe that he left the DA to stay true to his values and ideals.
