Tembisa hospital understaffed and overcrowded leaving community members are left frustrated as the hospital staff cannot adequately care for patients. The hospital serves the community of Tembisa and parts of the East Rand. The hospital was among those visited by the Human Rights Commission declaring that they paint a worrying picture about public healthcare.

The CEO the Hospital Dr Lekopane Mogaladi says while they have introduced measures to deal with under-staffing. He says this is a challenge faced by many health facilities in Gauteng.

Speaking to David O’Sullivan on Kaya 959 Dr Mogaladi said the hospital should optimally have 310 doctors – but operates with 283 – and instead of 1,400 nurses only 1,013 are employed.
Dr Mogaladi says systems had to be implemented to ensure that staff was able to remain confident in providing health care services despite the challenges.
