Four Dis-Chem staff members have been arrested for allegedly issuing fraudulent Covid-19 vaccine certificates. The cards were issued at the Dis-Chem Krugersdorp President Square vaccination site.
According to CEO Ivan Saltzman, the “isolated incident of fraudulent vaccination cards involved 4 temporary staff members”, stressing that the nationwide pharmacy has stringent checks in place to prevent such fraud.
Two men and two women between the ages of 19 and 36 were arrested and appeared in court facing charges of fraud.
The accused Dis-Chem staff members had allegedly charged people R100 for a vaccination card.
A discrepancy was noticed at the vaccination site during daily balancing of vaccines doses to stock and the Electronic Vaccination Data System system.
Saltzman says the group did not hesitate to take action due to seriousness of the situation.
With the prospect of a domestic vaccine passport system pending, this has raised fears about fake certificates indicating people have received the Covid jabs.
Dis-Chem has stressed that it has stringent checks in place to prevent such fraud and wants to assure the public that its determined to help keep records accurate.
The pharmacuetical group maintains that it adopts strict methods to ensure vaccine doses are administered accordingly.
