The “Queen of Zulu comedy” turns 43 today and Midday Joy with Unathi is celebrating Celeste Ntuli. The timing couldn’t be more perfect as Kaya 959 is celebrating 24-years of Kaya Magic too, so it was a double dose of fun and infectious laughter.
Celeste made a name for herself, not just for her comedic prowess but as an actress as well and her role as one of the wives to polygamist, Mpiyakhe Zungu on Isibaya won her a SAFTA Golden Horn award.
She has also scooped the Flying Solo Award as well as the Comedy G Award at the Savanna Comics’ Choice Awards. Her other role includes that of the Governor on Mzansi Magic’s hit drama series, Lockdown.
It’s difficult keeping a straight face when Celeste is around and her endless jokes and effervescent personality had Unathi and Midday Joy-ers in stitches.
Born in Empangeni, Kwazulu-Natal, on 25 August 1978, Celeste was discovered performing in a marquee in Durban. She went on to study entertainment technology at Durban University of Technology and hit the ground running on the comedy front.
In celebrating Celeste Ntuli one has to note that nothing is off-limits and no topic is too taboo and it’s her ability to keep it real with the punchlines that makes her popular with fans.
“A happy environment gives me joy. I choose to spread and surround myself with positive energy. Being kind gives me joy. Even when you fight with a kind person, they fight back in kindness. So, that gives me joy,” Celeste Ntuli on what gives her joy.
Listen to the full celebration with Celeste on Midday Joy, brace yourself as you are bound to be left crying with laughter:
