“I started as a backup singer for so many and there was a point when I wanted to quit.” – Nomcebo Zikode
Nomcebo Zikode’s name has soared to international highs after the success of her collaboration with Master KG on Jerusalema. The 35-year who was a backup singer for Zahara, Nhlanhla Nciza, Deborah Fraser and Lundi Tyamara over the years has since been signed by Sony/ATV.
She featured on Midday Joy with Unathi this Tuesday, touching on her 2020 album release, “Xola Moya Wam” which received an outpouring of support and was nominated for Best Dance Album at this year’s SAMAs.
Xola Moya Wami, which means “be at peace or rest, my spirit”, is a catchy dance song that is a combination of house beats and gospel-inspired tones.
Her incredible voice aside, Nomcebo has been named Aidonic’s Goodwill Ambassador and has taken on the role as a humanitarian. Bringing awareness to the plight of people in and around her community in Hammarsdale, Kwazulu-Natal and helping where needed.
The mom of two launched her foundation aimed at empowering the girl child earlier this year. Through the Nomcebo Zikode Foundation, the singer intends to make many communities around the country beneficiaries by donating monies where needed.
Her message is one of overcoming adversity and persistence at making progress even when that inner voice tells you to quit. The road to success was not and will not always be easy but Nomcebo is a testament to what overcoming obstacles both personal and external looks like.
