The Department of Health is investigating the source of counterfeit goods and expired food which is readily available in spaza shops across the country.
Health ministry spokesperson Popo Maja says the department’s environmental health practitioners has been conducting raids mainly in urban areas confiscating the fake foods. One of the items confiscated was fake 1.25-litre Coca-Cola bottles with “moving things” inside.

The community has been warned from consuming the items and reporting them to their local authorities when they come across them. The goods are sold main in the townships.
