Johannesburg mayor Herman Mashaba says he intends to take legal action against Gupta brothers Atul and Ajay for their alleged racial slurs against black South Africans. Mashaba says this will be done in his personal capacity following engagements with past and present employees of former ANN7.
He says the employees relayed numerous accounts in which the station’s bosses allegedly uttered racial slurs against black employees and black South Africans in general. Mashaba says he wrote an open letter on 11 June to National Director of Public Prosecutions Shaun Abrahams giving him 60 days to take action against the Guptas.
He says to date he has not received a response from Abrahams or the National Prosecuting Authority.
Speaking on Breakfast with David this morning Mashaba says although the Gupta’s are not in the country currently they cannot hide forever.
