An illegal miner was killed with one wounded and two arrested during a shoot-out with police at n in Mpumalanga. Lily Mine rose to prominence in 2016 when three miners Pretty Nkambule, Yvonne Mnisi and Solomon Nyarende were trapped underground after a container they were working on collapsed. Their bodies are yet to be recovered. Speaking to David O’Sullivan Business Rescue practitioner Rob Devereux says a new shaft will be developed and hopefully the container containing the bodies of trapped will be extracted from the mine when this new Lily Mine becomes operational.

Mine safety continues to be a major concern. Just his past weekend, 6 miners died in the Phalaborwa Copper miner after a conveyer belt caught fire. One of the miners who was injured is still in the hospital. The seven 7 miners were trapped after going down to fix a conveyer belt. AMCU leader Joseph Mathunjwa told David O’Sullivan that mining companies needed to be held accountable adding deaths at mining operations have become fashionable.
