Bulelwa Mkutukana, best known by her stage name Zahara, spills the beans on The Ultimate Kaya 959 Top 30, sharing with DJ Keyez that she’s all about living her best life unapologetically.
She recently clapped back at the negative backlash she received on social media after a viral video of her seemingly “drunk” made headlines.
Her message to her fans is simple, “If you want to know how I’ve been doing these past few years, forget about why I’m trending on social media, I’ll always trend. Go and get my album and listen to the songs. And let me be!”
After the year that’s passed and the loss Zahara and her family have faced, including her sister who passed away, and the impact it’s had on her livelihood, she deserves to be cut some slack.
The multi-award-winning South African songstress is excited about the release of her new album Nqaba Yam and her latest single Izolo which dropped on Friday 13 August.
There’s a dance challenge that goes with the track and be sure to tag Zahara when you give it a go.
Her last album Loliwe in 2011 earned Zahara the title of the SAMA award for Female Artist of the Year 2021. The journey to the release of Nqaba Yam (My Rock) was not without trial and the singer faced all obstacles and attempts to derail her promotional campaign head-on.
Earlier this month there were rumours Zahara and her partner, Mnyamezeli Japhta, were expecting their first child together.
Zahara did however dispel all fabricated headlines and set the record straight that her album Nqaba Yam was the only “baby” she’s expecting, due on 13 August.
This is not true. The only baby I’m expecting is my Album “Nqaba Yam” on the 13th of August.

She reveals that Nqaba Yam speaks to a time in her life when she felt completely alone, naked, like everything about her being had been stripped off but through all the adversity, there’s something that makes you hold on.
Before her sister passed, the title song Sinda Mphefumlo resonated with her, the track is one Zahara now holds close to her heart.
