Police in the Western Cape are on high alert after a spate of deadly mass shootings claimed the lives of 10 people, including 3 children.
In the first incident which shook Site C in Khayelitsha, 3 children and an adult were gunned down at a barbershop on Saturday, 08 June.
According to Western Cape MEC of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Reagen Allen, unknown gunment entered the barbershop and opened fire at the occupants.
“This incident is horrific and angers me deeply, particularly with the number of young people senselessly murdered and wounded.
These heartless criminals have absolutely no regard for life.
We need to ensure that they are swiftly arrested so that a conviction can follow. Life should never be this cheap.”
Two children aged 11 and 12, as well as an adult were killed on scene, while 3 other children were rushed to hospital after sustaining injuries.
A 5-year old child later succumbed to his injuries.
Police say two men were shot and killed close to the barbershop just moments before.
In a separate incident over the weekend in Nyanga, 4 others were shot and killed at a house bringing the death toll from the weekend to 10.
