The Nigerian government has released the names of 90 visitors who arrived in the country in the last two weeks, calling them “health threats” for failing to follow health guidelines placed in place to combat the spread of COVID-19.
According to a government notice, they were not checked for COVID-19 as expected.
The authorities have now requested them to report to the closest medical centre within 48 hours.
According to a notice issued by Nigeria’s information ministry, if the travellers violated health protocols, they will face fines such as removing their passports or work permits. The authorities have stated that the travellers could face prosecution.
COVID-19 has been reported in 166,000 people in Nigeria, with over 2,000 deaths.
